Frequent (3-4 times a year) visitors to St. Thomas and about to go back again, we realized that we had forgotten to write a review of the Toad and Tart which is a restaurant we head for almost as soon as we get off the plane.

Out of the mainstream, it's on the Smith Bay road and is open for dinner four nights a week. The atmosphere is wonderfully warm and friendly, there are toads everywhere (don't say "frogs" or you'll be chewed up by Anna's swift repartee) and the food is excellent. We've never been disappointed by any meal there and the prices are very reasonable.

We never hesitate to go back again and again because Anna is always there doing the cooking and thus you find a great consistency which sometimes is lacking in other places where chefs come and go.

The service is prompt and friendly, the food always comes out steaming hot and, as non-smokers, we really appreciate the Cozy dining room (which has AC) and is filled with books, artifacts and interesting pieces, more of which we notice every time we're there.

Suffice it to say that the Toad and Tart has enormous character and holds great appeal for those of us who tire of the typical mass-production prevalent in too many restaurants and seek (to quote directly from Anna's "mission statement"!) "great home-cooked food at most reasonable prices in friendly, comfortable surroundings."
